My father is a French national but he’s very frail and wants to come and live with me in London. Can this be done?

The requirements for bringing non-UK citizens into the country to live are very stringent but it is possible in this situation. Basically, if he is over 65 years old the law requires that as well as being your parent, you must be able to both accommodate him and financially support him without the use of public funds.

If he is under 65, you must also prove he’s living alone in the most exceptional compassionate circumstances as well as you having to satisfying the above conditions.

This answer is often typical from inexperienced immigration advisors.

If you are also a French national like your father then he can join you here in the UK under EEA law and UK immigration law criteria as mentioned by the earlier answer is irrelevant.

Likewise under EEA law your father may just be able to come to the UK in his own right as a retired person.

I always recommend that everyone should seek proper legal advice from a good immigration advisor for specific advice tailored to your individual circumstances.
