Buying a flat or house question:

I am the joint freeholder of a flat, the lease only has 69 years left to run. How do I extend the lease?

You say you are joint freeholder of the flat rather than the building. If you are a joint freeholder of the building then you may be able to extend your lease without going through the statutory claim process. In most circumstances you should be able to agree with the other joint freeholder for the lease to be extended to 999 years - but this will depend upon the circumstances of your ownership. Contact a member of ALEP (the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners) who will be able to assist.
