Children question:

My 7-year old granddaughter has been taken into care and I’ve heard that a children’s guardian has been appointed. However, I’ve been named as her guardian in her mum’s will and I’m confused.

A Children’s Guardian (CG) is not the same as the legal guardian who will look after a child on someone’s death. The CG is an independent person appointed by the Court to look after your granddaughter’s best interests during the court proceedings that will be taking place. The CG will investigate all the circumstances relating to her care, writing reports for the court and telling the court how your granddaughter feels and so on.

The CG will not work for the local authority that is taking the court proceedings involving your granddaughter. You can be assured that a Children’s Guardian is a professionally qualified social worker who is very experienced in working with children and young people and will have your granddaughter’s best interests at heart throughout the proceedings.
