Consumer and shopping claims question:
I owe money on my credit card. I have been told that if the credit card company cannot produce a copy of my original signed form, then they cannot claim any of the money off me. Is that true?

Until recently, that was true. But, the courts have now put a stop to that argument.
The consumer credit laws say that the credit card company has to produce a copy of the original signed agreement. However, the reality is that most credit card companies cannot do that – to create the right paper trail for all the thousands of people involved would be a nightmare. So, the courts have said that all they need to do is to recreate the original document that you were asked to sign (ie they do not have to produce a copy).
