A personal licence will show that you personally are a suitable person to sell, supply and authorise the supply of alcohol on licensed premises. As this licence would be personal to you, you would find it easier to move from one premises to another: you would not have to make a fresh application to a new licensing committee, or have to persuade a police force that you are an appropriate person with the right training, qualifications and character to sell or supply alcohol.

However, applicants for a personal licence must first get an accredited qualification which ensures that they are aware of licensing law and its wider social responsibilities. You will also need to apply for a basic criminal record check. Once granted, a personal licence lasts for 10 years.
